Predictify.com is a site where users can predict the outcome of events and gain a reputation based on their accuracy. Users can earn money by correctly predicting sponsored predictions. All users are ranked according to their accuracy and earnings. Users may also post predictions by asking a multiple-choice question and providing possible outcomes. An example prediction would be: “Will the stock market rise or fall over the next week?” Answers could be Rise, Fall, or Stay the same. The prediction would remain on the site until the event has transpired (or until a predetermined amount of time has transpired), then each user who answered the prediction would be scored on their answers.
The site presents some fascinating information. The predictions are organized into categories – Current Events, Business, Sports, Pop Culture, Politics and Other. There is also a concept called Leagues, which is simply a series of questions around a related topic. An example of a League would be a series of questions on the general state of the economy. Users can view the overall site rankings at any time by clicking on the Rankings tab. Users can view the demographics and a percentage breakdown of the answers to a given prediction. Users have a Home Page where they can view their rankings and statistics.
Predictify.com was launched in January 2008. The company was formed in March 2007 by Parker Barrile and Michael Agnich, and is based in Redwood City, CA. Parker Barrile is currently CEO and Michael Agnich is currently CTO.
Competitors to Predictify include MyPronostic and Hubdub. Both sites offer a similar service. MyPronostic allows users to buy and sell predictions. Hubdub offers earnings along the same lines as Predictify. MyPronostic has a more international flavor and is considerably less popular than Predictify, Hubdub is considerably more popular. Hubdub is also more similar in all aspects to Predictify, except that it does not have anything resembling the League concept.
The Predictify site has a relatively clean and uncluttered look, with a convenient top menu bar shown on all pages on the site. The menu bar contains links to the user’s Home Page, the various categories, Rankings, and Leagues. Navigation of the site is easy and intuitive. The site is very responsive, with page loads happening quickly. Statistics on predictions, when asked for, appear quickly as well. A very small amount of advertising is used on the site, but it is very unobtrusive.
Registration at Predictify is free and is required in order to answer a prediction or to post one. The registration process asks for screen name, email address and password. Validation of the email address is required. Companies desiring demographic data can contract with Predictify to post sponsored predictions on an individual basis.
Registration is free and there is no premium membership available on the site.
